"The Sound of Truth"
By: Notes from the Elder.
"We Must Give an Account."
In one of His many parables, Jesus spoke of a steward who had been accused of wasting his master's goods.
His master called him and said"... Give an account of thy stewardship..." (Luke 16:2)
Christians are God's stewards. This is true because we, & all our possessions, belong to God. Paul declared,
"For ye are bought with a price: Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
(1Corinthians 6:20) Concerning material things, David asserted, "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness
thereof; The world and they that dwell therein." (Psalm 24:1)
An account of our time.
(God "...giveth to all life; and breath..." (Acts 17:25)
It was God's breath, breathed into man's nostrils, that first brought life. What God gave He can take away
when He sees fit. Our time really belongs to God. It would not at all be ethical for a steward to spend all his
time in idleness, or for his own interests. It would nothing short of criminal for a steward to spend his time
doing things in opposition to the best interests of his master. Let every christian steward apply these truths
to himself.
An Account of our talents
Our talents and abilities whether hereditary or acquired, rightfully belong to God. The powers of our minds
which form the basis for our abilities, are God given. Worldly men use their talent for self gratification.
The christian who fully realizes that his talents are not really his own will not be guilty of this lack.
What a glorious thing if every talent now lying unused in our churches would be put into
active use for God's cause. Are you fully and whole heartedly using your God given talent for His cause?
Remember you must give an account.
An account of our Possessions
As already stated, what we call ours, really belongs to God. We are stewards appointed to administer these
things. We should therefore use possessions as He sees fit. God has not left us without instructions. We are
to tithe (give one tenth of our increase) in addition to giving offerings. Every christian steward should give
liberally to his own local church enterprises. He should also give to spread the gospel, both through foreign
and home missionary work. He should be ready to give to every worthwhile christian activity.
As God's stewards, We must give Account of our Stewardship.
